Updates

When he left Kardaki, Selim’s intention was to rejoin Miss Dirk’s company. Evidently Miss Dirk does not know that this is his intention, though. Will he have to spell it out? And will she readily accept him back?

What’s Next?

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, the story of The Turkish Lieutenant will soon be coming to a close. I understand this is a cause of unhappiness for some readers! But look, I didn’t adopt the titling convention of “So and So and the Blanketty-Blank” because I only intended to do one story.

Something new is in the works, and the very first people to find out about it will be Newsletter Subscribers, a little over a week from now. If that’s not to your taste, no worries. Eventually, all the pertinent information will be posted to the RSS feed as well as Twitter and Facebook. That’s right, you LinkedIn guys are out of luck. Stay tuned for more!

Selim has managed to avoid bullets, cannon shot, sabre blades, and the menaces of many ducks. With horses in tow, he’s reconnected with Miss Dirk. Will she cease the smalltalk long enough for them to be able to escape safely?

France Recap!

If the recent updates have been a bit short, it’s because they had been hastily prepared ahead of time so I wouldn’t have to worry about them while touring France. If you happen to be one of the people whom I met during my brief trip through your fair country, then it was a pleasure to meet you. This is safe to say because everyone – without exception – was a delight. I thank you all for your patience and understanding re: my non-existent grasp of the language.

I owe special thanks to Samuel and his crew at Bulle in Le Mans, to Audrey and everyone at Bulles d’Encres in Poitier, to Jason Little, my awesome companion for most of the trip, and of course to the Éditions Akileos family, who are kings of generosity. They kept us on a relaxed schedule, took care of our every need, and plied us constantly with macarons. So to Richard, Emmanuel, and everyone Akileos (you know who you are) – I extend my most heartfelt thanks!

Make sure to check out Jason’s excellent summary of the trip (and also his work!). A few folks have posted photos of the book-sketches I made for them, too, on the DD Facebook page.

I have not been able to write up a more thorough post about the trip as I have been relatively busy. Perhaps you’ll understand, though – I may be making more Delilah Dirk.

Wrapping Things Up

Speaking of more Delilah, the story of The Turkish Lieutenant will be coming to a close soon. If you’ve been following along since the beginning, to you I say kudos! You are a patient soul (and most likely handsome and/or beautiful) – especially since this story is not one that is ideally suited to being divided up in a serialized fashion.

Since this site will soon present a complete story, I would like to encourage you to spread word of the comic like never before. For those readers to whom the weekly breaks were a turn-off, well, now the thing will be available from start to end, still completely free. I encourage you to find these people (and others) and introduce DD to them! Making this comic was a considerable investment of time and effort, and in return all I ask is that you – my beloved readers – spread the word.

As for what’s next… well, there will be more! That is all I will say for now. Once The Turkish Lieutenant is finished updating, I will still post DD news here on this site, as well as at the Twitter feed and Facebook page. True to my promise, though, the first people to know any exciting news will be the newsletter subscribers.

Enjoy the comic!

After interfering with a pair of men who had been trying to shoot Miss Dirk, Selim has had to vault across rooftops in order to escape. He’s run out of room, though, and after loosing his footing has fallen onto the barrel of a cannon aimed at Delilah…

Selim has found Miss Dirk! And she’s been making enemies! In other news, rain is wet.

Having travelled as far as he has and rather than simply standing aside to wait for the dust to clear (so to speak), Selim girds himself to help as best he can. Will he regret this decision?

Though he had finally found what he’d been looking for – a cozy place to live and pleasant company to enjoy – Selim eventually began to feel an intense restlessness. He has, perhaps, been changed by his time with Miss Dirk.

So he sets off from Kardaki in pursuit of Delilah. Thanks to her reputation, following her progress is not as difficult as it might have initially seemed…

Ah, I am late in pointing this out, but many thanks to Robin Hoelzemann not only for brewing up a wonderful image, but also for using what I understand to be accurate tea cups. More accurate that what I’ve been drawing, anyways. Check it out right here. Thanks, Robin!

France!

I’ll be in France next week! Or is it this week? I haven’t boarded the plane yet and already je suis trés confondu.

On Tuesday, January 24th, I’ll be in Le Mans, signing books at Bulle at 3:00pm.

On Wednesday, January 25th, I’ll be in Poitiers, signing books at Bulles d’Encres, again at 3:00pm.

After that, from Thursday onward I’ll be at the Festival International de la Bande Desinée d’Angouleme! When I find out more specifics about that (booth number etc.) I’ll post it here.
