Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant

Alternate Fourth Chapter, Introduction

Welcome!

What follows is a rough, alternate version of the fourth chapter of Delilah Dirk and the Turkish Lieutenant, the first Delilah Dirk book. This work would likely have been done around the end of 2009. Let's refer to it as "Ending B" while the ending in the published book can be "Ending A."

I can't remember why I went to the trouble of roughing out Ending B. Perhaps I didn't think Ending A had enough action in it. I do remember presenting both versions to my trusted alpha-readers and asking for their opinions. At the time, I was split on which ending to choose. Now, I think Ending A is the more appropriate choice for the story, but I still like elements of B. I am posting it here for novelty's sake, but also to remind myself that there was a time when I would have roughed out an entire alternate ending. I don't do that anymore – I usually solve those problems in the "writing" stage.

This version ends in the same manner and shares lots of material with the final, published version, so obviously, if you don't want to know how The Turkish Lieutenant ends, save this for later.

Enjoy!
